  • Tire Abuse:
    • Tires which experience an unreasonable amount of wear during a reservation period will also be the responsibility of the guest. For example, if the tires were at 8mm and come back at 6mm depth then that is indicative of burnouts or other misuse and Overdrive will charge the applicable percentage of tire wear and tear.   For example, if the tire comes at 10mm and the guest uses 2mm then 20% of the cost of a new tire will be billed to the guest.
  • If vehicle damage occurs, it must be immediately reported to Overdrive Car Rentals. Report both physical and mechanical damage and be prepared to describe the issues as fully as possible. Additionally, you MUST get a police report for the accident.  This is a mandatory requirement as some insurance companies require this for processing and without this report you may be liable for all expenses out of pocket.
  • You’re responsible for any eligible damage that occurs during a trip, whether or not you’re at fault or caused the damage. The amount you’d owe for physical damage to a host’s vehicle is determined by two factors.
    • The amount of eligible damage, including costs and fees
    • The amount that your personal auto insurance pays for those damages
  • Overdrive Car Rental charges $250 processing fee to file a claim with your insurance which will come out of your security deposit. Note: if you decide to take care of the damage directly and pay out of pocket then we will waive this fee.

    • Step 3: Overdrive will solicit quotes for repairs and request the guest if they would like to pay out of pocket or send to their personal insurance.
    • Step 4a: Guest will pay for repairs.  Then the guest will pay for repairs via an invoice requested by Overdrive Car Rentals and that closes the claim.
    • Step 4b: Guest wishes to use personal insurance. In this case Overdrive Car Rentals will file a claim using the verified insurance information on file.
    • Step 5: Insurance Company will verify validity of claim and initiate cost estimates via their internal claims process.
    • Step 6: Insurance Company will authorize a payment amount.
    • Step 7: Vehicle will be repaired, and the vendor is paid.
    • Step 8: After we recover costs from your personal insurer, we’ll check to see if there’s still an outstanding balance due. If there’s no balance due or if the amount due is less than the amount of any deposits we’ve charged you, we’ll refund the remaining deposit amount. If there is a balance due, then Overdrive will collect that using the payment method originally provided.
  • Example of Claims Process
    • Joe is a guest who was verified and unfortunately rear ended another vehicle at a red light. He had a $1000 dollar deductible.  He got a police report, and the damage was $1200 to the Overdrive Vehicle and $500 to the other vehicle.  Joe wants to use his personal insurance since his deductible is only $250.  Overdrive files a claim with Joe’s Insurance Company Snuffy Insurance.  Snuffy insurance agrees to cover the cost up to $1200 for the Overdrive vehicle minus deductible but not loss of use.  This process took 2 weeks and generated $250 in loss of use.
      • Total Damage: $1450 + Filing Fee $250 = total $1700 – Insurance payment of $950 = total owed $750 – Deductible of $1000 = Refund of $250 from the deductible to Joe.
    • Example 2:
      • Sue sideswiped the vehicle on her trip, but she was letting her son drive who was not an approved driver. Overdrive will file a claim against Sue’s insurance since she is still liable as the individual who rented the vehicle.  The insurance company may deny the claim pending company policy.  The entire scope of damage was $4500.  The claim takes 45 days to resolve since another person was driving resulting in $1500 in loss of use.
        • Total Damage: $6000 + Claim Filing Fee $250 = total $6350 – Insurance payment of $3000 = total owed $3250 – Deductible of $1000 = Total owed by Sue is an additional $2250.
  • Prohibited vehicle uses and activities include the following:
    • Permitting someone who’s not an Approved Driver* to drive a vehicle booked through Overdrive Car Rentals
    • Driving a manual transmission car without being an expert in the use of clutches and manual transmissions
