Wander through its well-preserved historic streets, visit the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Headquarters, and hike up to Jefferson Rock for a panoramic view that will take your breath away. Parking can be a bit of a challenge in the downtown area as there is almost none. However, there is a bus service that runs for most of the day that will allow you to park in the large parking lots a little over 1.5 miles away.
3. Antietam National Battlefield: A Glimpse into the Past Step back in time at Antietam National Battlefield, the site of one of the deadliest battles during the Civil War. Explore the rolling fields and meticulously preserved landmarks, gaining profound insights into the nation’s history and sacrifice. In addition, if you are a real history buff, then Gettysburg is about 1.5 hours north in Pennsylvania and most people don’t know that they can check out some of the forts which surrounded DC during the civil war that are inside the city limits.
